Sounds as though another oil rig blew up. They managed to save all 13 workers that were on board at the time, but the fact remains... another oil rig. It makes you wonder what exactly happened. I'm pretty curious.
You know, it's hard to think of a situation like this without thinking about how dependent we are on oil. Fuel dependence isn't a new phenomenon; humans have been using various different fuels throughout the ages in order to achieve different goals. That being said, technology has improved much since the days of old.
For one thing, when we were depending on wood or even coal, we were more self sufficient as a people. Sure, there were a lot fewer of us in those days, but we managed to get by mostly under our own power. It seems as though that with the advent of oil and the ensuing technologies, we've become less independent as a people. These days we are heavily reliant on vehicles for transportation. Trucks transport our food from producer, to store and then finally we bring it home to our table. Cars take us from one place to another and many people have jobs that require a lengthy drives to keep.
This incident, as well as the BP oil spill of earlier this year just makes me stop and think. Oil fuels our lives, however it's obtained though, processed and then used in machines made by people. People are fallible, so it's easy to understand how their creations could fail. It's hypocritical to expect perfection of the people who built that oil rig, but to expect anything less is considered barbaric.
I'm just happy nobody was killed. Human error is the greatest weapon of all.

Return
Long time no write, eh? After reading Deadmau5's blog, I realized... I've got a blog on this thing. Who knew, right?
Anyways, it's not as though I'll remember to update this thing regularly, but what the hey. I might as well give it a spin.
So school starts next week, and what of it? Well I'm going to a new school this fall and am kinda excited about it. Dorm life isn't something new to me, but it's been many years since I've moved out on my own. Should be an interesting experience. I've been collecting things all throughout the summer and decided to opt for the slow and steady method of packing. By this I mean, setting out boxes to slowly pack for school so that, when the time arrives, I can just move it all into a car and get going.
Maybe I should write a blog post about packing for dorm sometime. Someone might be able to benefit from my experiences.
Just a thought.
